The Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge will an exhibition about the profound impact of William Morris and the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood on art, design, and social ideals. "A Call to Art: William Morris & the Pre-Raphaelites," is due to open on October 23 and run until 3 May 2027.
Featuring works by William Morris alongside his friends Edward Burne-Jones, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, John Everett Millais, and William Holman Hunt, the presentation will also highlight contributions from female artists Elizabeth Siddal, Kate Faulkner, and May Morris.
The show will include paintings, designs, textiles, furniture, wallpaper, tapestries, embroidery, prints, and drawings, illustrating the Pre-Raphaelites' major contribution to the Arts and Crafts movement.
Topics covered will include socialism, nature, medieval art, and evolving gender norms, offering insights into their enduring legacy within art history and design and how Morris and his contemporaries dared to imagine an alternative future with art for all.
