Eye Filmmuseum in Amsterdam is set to open "Eye(s) Open – New Perspectives on Colonial Film Heritage," an exhibition exploring colonial structures and power through the lens of historical film archives. Scheduled to run from 3 April to 6 September 2026, the presentation at IJpromenade 1 will feature new commissions across film and digital art.
The exhibition will showcase works by eleven artists: Paula Albuquerque, Timoteus Anggawan Kusno, Esther Figueroa, Sabine Groenewegen, Jongsma + O'Neill, Miranda Pennell, Jameisha Prescod, Afrian Purnama, Riar Rizaldi, and Mahardika Yudha. Their projects delve into reinterpretations and critical examinations of colonial film heritage.
An official opening event is planned for Thursday, 2 April 2026, at 20h30, preceding the public exhibition launch. The initiative seeks to foster contemporary dialogue around the historical narratives embedded within colonial film collections.
