Douglas Gordon's "Magic is sometimes very close to nothing at all" Opens at Gagosian Beverly Hills

Gagosian will host "Magic is sometimes very close to nothing at all," an exhibition by Douglas Gordon, at its Beverly Hills location. The exhibition is scheduled to run from July 16 to August 22, 2026, with an opening reception slated for Thursday, July 16, from 6–8pm at 456 North Camden Drive.

A central component of the exhibition will be Gordon's acclaimed 2006 film, "Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait," co-authored with Philippe Parreno. The film documents footballer Zinédine Zidane in real-time during a match, using multiple cameras to create an immersive, extended portrait. Complementing this, the exhibition will also feature Gordon's signature neon and vinyl text works, exploring themes of perception and language.

Gordon's practice often engages with film, video, and text to examine aspects of contemporary culture and portraiture. His work is held in collections including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; the National Galleries of Scotland; the National Gallery of Canada; and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.
