Diego Rivera, La ofrenda de Janitzio (1947) sold for $5.5m, more than the low estimate at Christie's in New York on May 12.
The sale beat the previous auction result for this work by $5.2m, equivalent to an annualized return of 7%. It last sold at auction in 1985 for $300,000 at Sotheby's.
