Derek Fordjour, Twelve Tribes (2021) sold for $1.14m, more than two and a half times the low estimate at Phillips in New York on November 19. The acrylic, charcoal, cardboard and oil pastel on newspaper, mounted on canvas, in 12 parts, in artist's frame work has been traded twice in the past.
The sale beat the artist’s previous auction record by $198,000, a 20% rise.
