David Scougall, Portrait of a lady identified as Lady Margaret Hay, Countess of Roxburghe, standing, three-quarter length, wearing a silk dress with a lace collar and pearl jewellery; (Undated) sold for $50,900 (GBP39,200), more than six and a half times the low estimate at Roseberys in London on March 12. The oil on canvas work has been traded twice in the past.

The sale beat the artist’s previous auction record by $20,800, a 69% rise.
