Santa Barbara Mansion and Bicester Village Host Pop-Up Shows

Montecito may have said farewell to its nonworking royals, but nearby Bellosguardo will play host to some special guests this month.

The former home of reclusive heiress Huguette Clark in nearby Santa Barbara opens its doors for a show organized by David Kordansky Gallery.

Kordansky's eclectic group show featuring the work of 25 artists, ranging from Betty Woodman to Adam Pendleton, is due to open on September 26, running through November.

Originally conceived as a private retreat by copper magnate William Andrews Clark, Bellosguardo was inherited by his daughter, Huguette, in the 1960s. While she maintained the property, she rarely visited and it is now preserved by the Bellosguardo Foundation for arts and culture.

Meanwhile, in Oxfordshire, the English county and possible future home of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, another unusual pop-up show is due to open this month.

The Beryl Cook and Friends project is due to open on September 10 at Bicester Village, a luxury retail complex. Organized by the House of Voltaire, it will include an open-air presentation of Cook’s work, so shoppers will find themselves surrounded by the artist's over-the-top characters.

As well as original works by Cook, limited-edition prints, and Cook-related merchandise, editions by Sarah Lucas, Jeremy Deller, and Chantal Joffe, will be on offer to raise funds for the London-based nonprofit Studio Voltaire.
