Enthused and Spiteful Hairpins by Anthony Watson. State Foundation on Culture and the Arts.
Capitol Modern, home to the Hawaiʻi State Art Museum, is set to present 'Creative Micronesia,' a series of events complemented by the 'Arts of Oceania' mini-exhibition. Organized in collaboration with the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, the programming will run from August 7 to November 28, 2026.
The exhibition highlights contemporary and traditional art from Micronesian and Oceanic cultures, featuring diverse mediums such as wind instruments, weapons, sculpture, and mixed media. Among the featured artists are Kalama Fallau and Anthony Watson, whose works contribute to the understanding of these artistic traditions.
A meet-the-artist reception is scheduled for Saturday, August 8, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. This event offers an opportunity to engage directly with the artists involved in the initiative. The series and exhibition underscore Capitol Modern's commitment to showcasing varied cultural expressions within its public art collection.
