Claude Monet, Portrait d’homme debout (1864), sold for $1.35m (GBP1.02m), more than six and a half times the low estimate at Sotheby's in London on June 25.

The sale beat the previous auction result for this work by $1.11m, equivalent to an annualized return of 17%. It last sold at auction in 2016 for $245,400 at Christie's.

Oil on canvas, 46.2 x 32.6cm. The work has been traded 8 times in the past.
