Monet Waterlilies with $40m Estimate Returns to Auction

Claude Monet, Nymphéas, is due to be sold at Sotheby's in London on June 24, 2026 with a $40.14m ($30m) to $53.52m estimate.

The waterlilies was bequeated to the Art Institute of Chicago but then deaccessioned and former owners include the notable US collector Anne H. Bass.

It last sold at auction in 2022 for $56.49m at Christie's. The current low estimate is 14% higher than its previous low estimate of $35m.

Oil on canvas, 93.7 x 89.5cm. The work has been traded 13 times in the past.
