Charles M Russell, Dust (1925) sold for $5.81m, more than the low estimate at Christie's in New York on January 20. The oil on canvas work, which was consigned by William Koch, had been traded several times in the past.
The sale beat the artist’s previous auction record by $809,000, a 16% rise.
