Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea will host the first solo exhibition in an Italian museum by artist and poet Cecilia Vicuña, titled El glaciar ido (The vanished glacier / Il ghiacciaio scomparso). The exhibition, located in the Manica Lunga, will run from April 29 to September 20, 2026.
She has created a new work designed for the building’s longitudinal spaces. The horizontal installation suspended at multiple heights refers to quipus or knotted cords that were a form of ancient Andean writing.
Vicuña’s multidisciplinary practice frequently addresses themes of ecological art, feminist perspectives, and decolonial practices, often drawing on Indigenous cultural heritage. Her work encompasses performance, poetry, drawing, painting, video, and installations, including her Arte Precario series and renowned quipus.
This presentation at Castello di Rivoli follows Vicuña’s significant contributions to numerous international venues and events, including the Tate Modern, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Whitney Biennial, documenta, and the Venice Biennale, among others. Her work has been acquired by institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art and the Hammer Museum.
