Carlos Orozco Romero's Auction Record Jumps 12%

Carlos Orozco Romero, Protesta (1939) sold for $38,400, more than two and a half times the low estimate at Sotheby's in New York on November 19. The gouache and pencil on canvas work has been traded twice in the past.

The sale beat the artist’s previous auction record by $4,236, a 12% rise.

The previous record was set by Arquitectos Del Destino (1955), which sold for $34,200 at Morton Casa de Subastas on May 21, 2015.
