Carel Fabritius, Christ and The Woman of Samaria, sold for $762,000, more than nine and a half times the low estimate at Sotheby's in New York on February 4.

The sale beat the previous auction result for this work by $719,800, equivalent to an annualized return of 11%. It last sold at auction in 1999 for $42,200 at Sotheby's.

Pen and brown ink and brown and gray-brown wash, heightened with white, 18.1 x 20.5cm. The work has been traded 9 times in the past.
