Beyond Impressionism: Printmaking from Manet to Picasso at The Holburne

The Holburne is set to present "Beyond Impressionism: Printmaking from Manet to Picasso," an exhibition running from 23 May to 13 September 2026. This presentation will examine the significant revival of printmaking from the mid-19th century onwards, showcasing its role in the artistic movements of the period.

The exhibition will feature works by a range of influential artists, including Édouard Manet, Pierre Bonnard, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Pablo Picasso, Vincent van Gogh, Paul Cézanne, Berthe Morisot, Camille Pissarro, James McNeill Whistler, and Utagawa Hiroshige. Mediums on display will encompass etching, lithography, and woodblock prints, highlighting the diverse techniques embraced by artists of this era.

"Beyond Impressionism" aims to illustrate how printmaking, once seen as a secondary art form, became a critical medium for experimentation and dissemination for artists associated with Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. The exhibition is informed by collaborations, including with The Ashmolean Museum, University of Oxford, and references historical entities such as the Société des Aquafortistes and figures like Félix Bracquemond and Ambroise Vollard, who were instrumental in the medium's resurgence.
