Bernardino De Conti, Portrait of an Elegantly-Attired Noblewoman in Profile (Undated) sold for $3.12m, more than one and a half times the low estimate at Sotheby's in New York on February 6. The oil on panel work has been traded 10 times in the past.
The sale beat the artist’s previous auction record by $2.58m, a 400% rise.
The previous record was set by Portrait of lady half length in black dress decorated with lace (Undated), which sold for $542,900 at Christie's on December 14, 1990. The work had not been traded before.
