Benjamin Williams Leader, Kempsey Church on the River Severn (1883) sold for $40,300, more than two and a half times the low estimate at Christie's in New York on May 21.
The sale was below the previous auction result by $141,200, realizing a 77% negative return. It last sold at auction in 2000 for $181,500 at Christie's.
