Balthasar van der Ast, Grapes, apples and peaches in a blue and white porcelain bowl, with a vase of tulips, roses, irises and other flowers on a stone ledge covered with flowers, shells, fruit and insects (1625), sold for $670,600 (GBP508,000), more than the low estimate at Christie's in London on June 30.

The sale was below the previous auction result by $314,100, realizing a 31% negative return. It last sold at auction in 2001 for $984,700 at Sotheby's.

Oil on panel. The work has been traded twice in the past.
