William Congdon's Auction Record Jumps 5%

William Congdon, The City (1949) sold for $47,500, more than seven and a half times the low estimate at Swann Galleries in New York on May 2. The Oil and gouache on board work has not been traded before.

The sale beat the artist’s previous auction record by $2,500, a 5% rise.

The previous record was set by Assisi #3 (1954), which sold for $45,000 at Leslie Hindman Auctioneers on December 14, 2016. The work had not been traded before.
