Seiji Kurata's auction record jumps 21%

Seiji Kurata, 入墨の男 [Irezumi no otoko] Tattooed Man from Flash Up 1975 (1975) sold for $88,600, more than three and a half times the low estimate at Phillips in London on May 16. The Gelatin silver print work has been traded once in the past.

The sale beat the artist’s previous auction record by $15,700, a 21% rise.

The artist’s previous auction record was set by the same work, selling for $72,900 at Phillips on May 18, 2017.
