Martin Wong, Portrait of Mikey Piñero at Ridge Street and Stanton (1985) sold for $1.3m, more than the low estimate at Christie's in New York on May 14. The acrylic on canvas work has been traded once in the past.

The sale beat the artist’s previous auction record by $39,600, a 3% rise.

The previous record was set by Quong Yuen Shing & Co. (1992), which sold for $1.26m at Bonhams on May 19, 2022. The work had not been traded before.
