Emmi Whitehorse, Canyon Lake I (2001) sold for $177,800, more than 14 times the low estimate at Phillips in New York on May 15. The oil pastel on paper mounted to canvas work has been traded twice in the past.
The sale beat the artist’s previous auction record by $50,800, a 39% rise.
