Alexander Archipenko's auction record jumps 100% with $5.13m sale

Alexander Archipenko, Woman Combing Her Hair (1915) (1965) sold for $5.13m, more than three times the low estimate at Christie's in New York on May 16. The bronze with brown patina work has been traded once in the past.

The sale beat the artist’s previous auction record by $2.76m, a 100% rise.

The previous record was set by Woman (1918), which sold for $2.37m at Christie's on June 21, 2005. The work had not been traded before.
