Arthur Jafa's Largest Survey Exhibition to Open at New Museum

The New Museum has announced "Arthur Jafa: I Am Tony," the largest survey exhibition of the artist's work, opening on September 24, 2026, and running through January 4, 2027. This comprehensive presentation will feature Jafa's seminal video works alongside early pieces and recent productions.

The exhibition will explore the breadth of Jafa's practice across various mediums, including video, installation, photography, painting, sculpture, and film. His work frequently engages with themes of Black life in America, race, institutional violence, and Black culture, often referencing cinematic history and popular music.

"Arthur Jafa: I Am Tony" aims to provide an in-depth look at the artist's oeuvre, from his renowned video art to other facets of his output. The exhibition delves into how Jafa's work navigates contemporary art, social media, and internet culture, drawing upon a diverse range of influences including Julie Dash, Stanley Kubrick, Spike Lee, Tony Williams, and John Akomfrah.
