The Art Gallery of New South Wales (AGNSW) has released its program for 2026, outlining key exhibitions and media preview opportunities for art world professionals. The year features a diverse array of shows encompassing Australian art, international themes, and significant prizes.
Among the highlights are the Archibald, Wynne & Sulman Prizes 2026, scheduled from 9 May to 16 August 2026, with a media preview on 8 May. A major exhibition dedicated to Brett Whiteley: Chapters: 1970–79 will run from 20 June to 5 October 2026, with its media preview on 19 June. An associated exhibition will be presented at the Brett Whiteley Studio, Raper St, Surry Hills. The AGNSW will also host Nolan: Origins from 3 October 2026 to 7 February 2027, with a media preview on 2 October.
Further exhibitions include Avatar: Forms of Vishnu, exploring Hindu deities, from 12 September 2026 to March 2027, with a media preview on 11 September. The Dobell Australian Drawing Biennial 2026, featuring artists such as Mary MacDougall, is slated for mid-2026. The program also highlights works by Julie Fragar and Sidney Nolan, covering mediums such as painting, sculpture, photography, and drawing, across the gallery's Naala Nura and Naala Badu spaces, and the Kaldor Family Hall.
