The Art Gallery of New South Wales (AGNSW) has unveiled the finalists and winners for its prestigious 2026 art prizes. These include the Archibald Prize for portraiture, the Wynne Prize for landscape painting or sculpture, and the Sulman Prize for subject, genre painting, or mural art. Additionally, the recipient of the Packing Room Prize has been determined.
The announcement precedes the opening of the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prizes 2026 Exhibition, which will feature the selected works. The exhibition is scheduled to open to the public at the Art Gallery of New South Wales on May 9.
This year's Shulman Prize-winning artist is chosen by Del Kathryn Barton.
These annual awards are significant fixtures in the Australian art calendar, drawing submissions across painting and sculpture, and covering diverse topics from contemporary portraiture to landscape interpretations and various forms of subject art. The exhibition offers an overview of current trends and achievements in Australian art.
