ARoS in Aarhus, Denmark, will present Unruly. The Body in Punk, an exhibition dedicated to exploring punk's creative revolution and its representation of the body. Running from June 27 to December 13, it explores the movement's mix of defiance and vulnerability.
The exhibition argues punk was a significant artistic rebellion, drawing parallels to movements such as Dadaism and Surrealism. It will address themes of youth culture, identity, and the subversion of traditional gender roles through a punk lens.
The show will feature works in various media, including film, photography, fanzines, jewellery, posters, Polaroids, sculpture, and drawings. Featured artists include Linder, Anne Bean, Leigh Bowery, and Jamie Reid.
Featuring around 130 works, the exhibition traces punk’s origins in 1970s London and shows how the movement spread and changed – with a special focus on Berlin's subcultures.
