Gagosian has announced a new exhibition by Anselm Kiefer, titled "Anselm Kiefer: Seal My Ears Shut and I Shall Hear You Still," opening in New York. The exhibition will be on view at the gallery's 541 West 24th Street location from May 15 to June 27, 2026.
The forthcoming body of work draws inspiration from a diverse range of subjects, including feminine archetypes, classical mythology, and literary figures. Kiefer continues his exploration of symbolism, alchemy, and landscape, often referencing German Romanticism and poetry in his practice.
The new paintings employ a complex material vocabulary, incorporating oil, acrylic, emulsion, and shellac. Further elements include collaged canvas, gold leaf, sediment of electrolysis, and charcoal, reflecting Kiefer's signature use of mixed media to create richly textured surfaces.
