The 2026 Anozero – Coimbra Biennial of Contemporary Art, titled 'To hold, to give, to receive,' commenced on April 11 in Coimbra, Portugal, and will run through July 5, 2026. This expansive, city-wide exhibition delves into concepts of memory, exchange, and coexistence, integrating contemporary artistic and architectural practices.
Presented across various historic sites within the city, the biennial engages with themes such as ecological thinking, collective memory, displacement, political violence, and knowledge systems. The featured works encompass diverse mediums including installation, photography, film, sculpture, research-based projects, and architectural interventions.
The exhibition features contributions from an extensive roster of artists and collectives, among them Taryn Simon, Nan Goldin, Forensic Architecture, Lina Bo Bardi, Vasco Araújo, and Julian Charrière. Venues include the Monastery of Santa Clara-a-Nova, Museu Municipal de Coimbra, Círculo Sede, Convento São Francisco, and the Jardim Botânico, offering a dispersed curatorial approach throughout Coimbra.
Organized by Círculo de Artes Plásticas de Coimbra, in collaboration with the Coimbra City Council and the University of Coimbra, Anozero aims to foster dialogue surrounding critical contemporary issues through a blend of local context and international artistic perspectives.
