Ana Mendieta, Untitled (1985) sold for $756,000, more than two and a half times the low estimate at Christie's in New York on November 21. The wood slab, carved and burned with gunpowder work has been traded twice in the past.
The sale beat the artist’s previous auction record by $189,000, a 33% rise.
