Amedeo Modigliani, Portrait de Lunia Czechowska (1917) sold for $8.06m (GBP6.29m), more than one and a half times the low estimate at Christie's in London on March 5.
The sale beat the previous auction result for this work by $6.33m, equivalent to an annualized return of 5%. It last sold at auction in 1996 for $1.73m at Briest.
