‘Lying Figure’ was painted by Francis Bacon in 1969 and turned into a series of prints in 2015. Its subject is an anonymous nude figure, based on photographs of his friend Henrietta Moraes taken by John Deakin. This work is the third and final variant of ‘Lying Figure with Hypodermic Syringe’ (1963) the first to inaugurate the format of an inverted body lying on a bed.
