Depicting a bottle green-clad skier descending a mountain, ‘Couloir 1’, the first of six prints in Peter Doig’s ‘Zermatt’ (D1, 2022), imagines the view whilst skiing behind a companion through a narrow passage of a snowy slope. Flanked on either side by rock, ice and skinny fir trees, the viewer and the skier face out to the towering mountains beyond the valley below, its snowy mass cutting into a polar-blue sliver of sky.
