HENI presents The Dreams by Damien Hirst, a striking new series that features 40 original works on canvas and 8 limited edition prints based on the paintings. Merging two of Hirst's most iconic motifs—delicate butterflies and the dynamic colours of his Spin Paintings—these works highlight the tension between natural beauty and mechanised artistic creation.
The Dreams editions consist of 8 limited edition prints based on the original paintings. The editions are laminated Giclée prints on aluminium composite panel, each measuring 88 x 88 cm. They are priced at $3,500 (plus applicable taxes) and are numbered and hand-signed on the label by the artist. The number of editions will be limited by demand during the drop window.
The artworks are available by application until 17:00 BST on 7 April.
The primary collection comprises 40 original paintings, each measuring 91.4 x 91.4 cm, crafted using real butterflies and household gloss on canvas. Each artwork is signed and titled by the artist on the verso.
The works are available by application from 27 March 2025.
In The Dreams, delicate butterflies appear suspended in motion, juxtaposed against a background of swirling, vibrant colours that seem to explode across the canvas in bold and unpredictable patterns. This stark contrast between the meticulously arranged, natural forms of the butterflies and the dynamic, abstract energy of their surroundings creates a compelling sense of both movement and stillness.
Spin painting involves applying paint to a rotating surface, with the resulting pattern determined by colour choice and machine motion. Hirst views the paint's fluid and spontaneous movement as a metaphor for life and the necessity of constant change.
Butterflies are among Hirst’s recurring trademarks, which he describes as a ‘universal trigger’ encompassing love, beauty and the ephemerality of life. Throughout his career, he has created multiple series exploring themes of religion, philosophy, and history through butterfly imagery.
In line with earlier series of spin artworks, each title begins with the word ‘Beautiful’, followed by a variety of evocative sentences such as Transcending Time and Space With Someone Like You and Keeping Zen Whilst Moving at Speed.
Damien Hirst is a British artist whose name has become synonymous with contemporary art. Since his generative work as a student at Goldsmiths School of Art, Hirst's production has been boundary−redefining in nature. Working primarily in installation, painting, sculpture and drawing, Hirst explores the complex relationships between art, beauty, religion, science, life and death. He constantly returns to his foundational interests and themes, which he reworks to develop an innovative visual language.
All of the artworks are on display at the HENI Gallery for the duration of the drop. Admission to the gallery is free, with no appointment required.
