Thank You God

Thank You God is a catalogue showcasing 40 new works on paper by acclaimed American artist Wes Lang. The series develops the contemplative style of Lang’s works on paper through a reinterpretation of one of the artist’s recurring motifs: the bird. The artworks are acrylic, crayon, pencil and oil pastel on paper. In Thank You God, Lang makes birds the central focus, depicted alongside skulls and flowers as well as cursive text. He has long used birds, a motive drawn from memories of his grandmother, as symbols of hope and positivity. In these new works, he returns to the motif as a symbol for his newest child, who was born two days after the series was completed.
