Paris Nude

An intimate study of the female nude by British photographer Mary McCartney.

Paris Nude presents a new body of work by the celebrated British photographer Mary McCartney. Over the course of two days in summer 2016, McCartney stayed with her subject Phyllis Wang at her Saint Germain apartment in Paris, photographing Wang in the nude to produce an extraordinary and intimate series of images.

A mixture of black and white and colour, the delicate photographs collected here showcase the intimacy and trust required from both subject and photographer. Over the course of their time together, we see the model increasingly relax in front of the camera as she assumes various poses, and an unspoken bond between the two gradually develops.

With short texts by McCartney and Wang reflecting on their experiences, the book also features an essay by Charlotte Jansen, framing the series within a historical study of the nude in art and giving context to the distinct, fresh perspective of the female gaze.

A special slipcased edition with an exclusive handmade darkroom print, signed and numbered, is available in a limited run of 143 copies plus 7 artist’s proofs.
