This title originates from two fashion shoots on location in Peru – the first in 1971 for Vogue, the latter in 1984 for Tatler. Having been struck by the natural beauty of the people and places on these fashion assignments, Bailey set out to document people around the world in their natural habitats.
Bailey’s Peru collects his photography from those visits, a mixture of landscape, fashion and portrait photography, showcasing Bailey’s immense and multi-faceted talents. In both colour and black and white, Bailey captures and celebrates the undeniable beauty of the land and its people.
Featuring an introduction by Grace Coddington, Creative Director for US Vogue, who accompanied Bailey on his first trip to Peru, an engaging essay by Jackie Higgins and text from Bailey himself.

David Bailey was born in Leytonstone, London. After working as fashion photographer John French’s assistant, he published his first portrait of Somerset Maugham for Today magazine in 1960. He went on to photograph extensively for Vogue and has worked with some of the greatest names in fashion and music. Bailey has exhibited worldwide, with the first of his landmark exhibitions in 1971 at the National Portrait Gallery, London. Internationally renowned, Bailey has produced some of the most famous photographic portraits of the last five decades.
Grace Coddington is the creative-director-at-large of American Vogue well-known for her large, complex and dramatic photoshoots and considered to have created some of fashion’s most memorable imagery.
Jackie Higgins is a writer, journalist and filmmaker whose work embraces a range of subjects.
