Seventy Two (Limited Edition)
23 Sharing The Flame
A collection of 72 paintings in ink and acrylic by actress and artist Lucy Liu.
Seventy Two presents a dynamic body of artworks by Lucy Liu. Comprising 72 paintings in ink and acrylic, the series is inspired by the 72 Names of God – esoteric sequences of Hebrew letters that some believe help in the journey to find enlightenment for mind, body, and spirit. Liu’s art practice sits at the interface of Eastern and Western traditions of art, referencing a variety of styles, from Abstract Expressionism to Chinese calligraphy. With a freshness, vitality, and energy of its own Seventy Two is a must for anyone with an interest in abstract art and spirituality.
The book features essays by author, alternative medicine advocate and founder of The Chopra Foundation, Deepak Chopra as well as theologian, philosopher and art historian Ori Z Soltes and artist Michael Dopp who similarly works in acrylic on canvas or fabric. Each essay offers the author’s interpretation of the 72 abstract paintings with guidance for the viewer to discover the deeper meaning hidden within the pages.
The limited edition is produced in an edition of 72 copies (plus 3 artist proof’s) and is accompanied by a signed print of one of Liu’s paintings from the series, presented together in a silkscreened cloth-covered solander box.
