"An exhibition of paintings by world-renowned graffiti artist MadC entitled Street to Canvas is on display at the HENI Gallery from 18 November 2021 to 29 January 2022. Curated by Andrew Hayward, the exhibition features an assemblage of 20 stunning canvas paintings meticulously crafted by MadC over the past year.
In her studio-bound canvas pieces, MadC invigorates the historical legacy of abstraction through vibrant mark-making and intricate layers of colour. Despite its transformative nature, MadC's canvas painting style remains deeply rooted in graffiti art and its culture, expertly transferring the dynamic energy and visual language of street art into the refined space of the gallery. The largest of the exhibited works, measuring an impressive 4.5 meters in width, stands out as an explosive and immersive artwork that artfully bridges the realms of public and private expression within MadC's oeuvre.
Coinciding with the exhibition is the launch of the comprehensive 240-page monograph titled MadC: Street to Canvas, a close collaboration between HENI Publishing and the artist. Writer and curator Luisa Heese contributes illuminating texts, while over 150 images chronicle MadC's diverse spectrum of public outdoor artworks and canvas paintings.
Street to Canvas celebrates the fusion of urban vitality and artistic tradition, a testament to MadC's innovative approach. "
