Brian Clarke: The Vespers
HENI is delighted to present The Vespers by Sir Brian Clarke, four limited-edition prints based on Clarke’s pivotal Vespers series of watercolours. These works are part of a series of prints conceived and completed by Clarke in the final months of his life. The rest of the prints are planned to be released over the next few years.
HENI is committed to celebrating and recognising Brian’s legacy.
The Vespers works are Giclée prints on Cotton Smooth Rag, presented in oak frames with UV-protected acrylic glass. The prints measure 90 x 70 cm (framed) and are priced at $1,500 each (plus applicable taxes). Each print is from an edition of 50 (+ 12 APs). All works are numbered and hand-signed on the front by the artist.
The editions are available by application until 17:00 BST on 19 August 2026.
About The Vespers
The prints are based on watercolours from the Vespers series, a body of work which draws on Clarke’s longstanding romance with poppies. The forms appear at first glance to be poppies, with their thin, green paint-drip stems and vivid scarlet petals, but they quickly take on a more abstract, changeable appearance. Clarke called these mesmerising interactions of light and colour “vespers”. He explained, “Vespers comes from the Greek hespera, meaning evening – they are evening prayers.”
Critic Robert Storr praised Clarke’s technique, “Clarke is able to eke out subtle suggestions of formal flux and volume from the various transparencies and opacities of a single spontaneous stroke,” calling the Vespers series “an explosive bouquet of natural beauty at its most ephemeral.”
Originally painted through the pandemic, and first exhibited at Phillips, London in 2021, these meditative works capture Clarke’s activity during this turbulent time.
About Sir Brian Clarke
Sir Brian Clarke was an internationally acclaimed artist whose work spanned a wide range of genres and mediums.
Clarke died on 1 July 2025 at age 71. Widely regarded as the most important contemporary artist working in stained glass, across his fifty-year career he revolutionised the stained glass medium not only technologically but also philosophically, pushing the boundaries of what it can achieve. Equally important was his pictorial practice, explored in painting, sculpture, lead work, mosaic, drawing, collage and tapestry.
His unique and radical approach earned him numerous awards and honours, and his artworks have been shown in prestigious collections and institutions worldwide such as The Victoria and Albert Museum, Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, Corning Museum of Glass New York and Tate London.

HENI estimates all artworks will ship within three months of the application window closing. Please note that the exact timing is subject to demand, production capacities and potential shipping delays. Customers will be contacted with a tracking number before their work is shipped.

You can complete your application for The Vespers on a computer or mobile device, after which you will receive a confirmation email detailing each of the editions you applied for. After the allocation period, if your application is successful, you will be sent an order confirmation once payment has been successfully taken.

As The Vespers is a limited-edition release, HENI tries to ensure that the prints are sold broadly and fairly (rather than on a ‘first come, first served’ basis). You can apply for multiple artworks from The Vespers, however, HENI cannot guarantee that you will be offered the opportunity to buy every print you apply for.
During the application process it is possible to select “Partial Allocation”, and “Alternative Allocation”.
If you selected ‘Yes’ to the “Partial Allocation” option during the application process, HENI may offer you the opportunity to purchase some of the editions you applied for, but not all. Choosing “Partial Allocation” may increase your chances of being successfully allocated.
If you selected ‘No’ to the “Partial Allocation” option during the application process, HENI will only satisfy your application if we are able to fulfil your entire application.
If you selected ‘Yes’ to “Alternative Allocation” during the application process, it means that you are willing to receive an alternative artwork of the same size category and price if your original selection isn't available. Choosing “Alternative Allocation” may increase your chances of being successfully allocated.
If you selected ‘No’ to the “Alternative Allocation” option during the application process, you will only receive the artwork(s) you originally selected in your application. If your original selection isn't available, HENI will not offer you an alternative artwork.

The Vespers is priced in US Dollars and can be purchased using credit or debit card. Please ensure when submitting your payment details that you enter the correct billing post/zip code information for the payment card you are using.
As part of the application process, you will be asked to provide your card details. Each application will be reviewed carefully, and HENI expects to begin contacting successful applicants in the weeks following the close of the application period. Payment will only be taken once your application has been confirmed as successful. HENI will first attempt to process payment using the card details provided at the time of application. If the payment is unsuccessful, you will receive an email containing a custom payment link to complete the transaction. Payment must be completed within 48 hours of that email being sent, otherwise the allocation will be withdrawn.
The Vespers does not come with a Certificate of Authenticity. The edition numbers for each of the works are randomly allocated and cannot be chosen. As with all our drops, the APs are not for sale.
The Vespers are on display at HENI Gallery for the duration of the drop. Admission to the gallery is free, with no appointment required.

As soon as your order is ready to dispatch, you will receive an email confirmation with the tracking information.
To ensure efficient delivery of our editions HENI ships exclusively through our trusted courier partners. Therefore, we are unable to facilitate in-person collection or organise independent shipping.
The Vespers will be shipped from the UK and can be shipped internationally. The prices indicated are exclusive of VAT, delivery charges, insurance or any customs or import duties or local taxes that may be payable. For orders shipping to the UK, Standard Rate VAT will be applied and collected at the time of payment.
If your shipping address is outside of the UK, you will be responsible for any customs or import duties and local taxes that may be payable. Where such duties or taxes are payable in respect to any works ordered, HENI does not collect and pay them on your behalf. You are responsible for paying any amounts due directly to the applicable customs authority. HENI is not able to offer any guidance on customs or import duties or local taxes, and we recommend that you contact your local customs office for details.
