HENI Editions is delighted to present The Black Drawings by acclaimed American artist Wes Lang, featuring 8 unique prints based on drawings from his series The Black Paintings.
The editions are Giclée prints on Cotton Smooth Rag, set within an oak frame with UV-protected acrylic glass, and are available in two sizes: 104 x 81.4 cm and 81.4 x 104 cm. Each work is from an edition of 25 + 6 APs, hand-signed and numbered on the front.
The editions are available by application from 10 October until 21 October at 17:00 BST.

Wes Lang
American artist Wes Lang creates provoking artworks, primarily on canvas and paper and featuring a universe of striking characters, that intend to inspire and motivate. Populating his works with everything from skulls, grim reapers and country music icons to flora, birds and horses, Lang’s imagery has the capacity to reach a wide-ranging audience but is nonetheless deeply personal.
Lang’s work can be found in notable international collections including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and Damien Hirst’s collection. He lives and works in Los Angeles.

About The Black Drawings
The Black Drawings are based on works on paper from Wes Lang’s series The Black Paintings. Produced between 2022 and 2024, The Black Paintings are populated by Lang’s distinctive group of characters, namely his favoured skeleton, but also animal-like and otherworldly beings.
While Lang’s paintings are dense with colour and imagery, his drawings are lighter, leaving broad and contemplative white spaces on the pages. Often, these works on paper include text, sometimes integrating phrases that echo Taoist philosophy, while other times using more personal expressions.
Text and image frequently appear to be incongruous, encouraging viewers to engage further with the works and uncover meanings for themselves. Lang is known for taking inspiration from a wide range of sources, masterfully fusing the styles of his fine art heroes with memories and imagery from childhood and culture.

The original artworks

Two new publications
To coincide with the exhibition, HENI Publishing released two new catalogues: The Black Paintings and The Black Drawings: Works on Paper. The books are available exclusively online through HENI Publishing, and at Newport Street Gallery and HENI Gallery.

Application
The editions are available by application from 10 October until 21 October at 17:00 BST.
Allocation
HENI will carefully review each application and aims to start notifying successful applicants over the coming weeks after the application period has closed.
Delivery or Storage
You can have your order delivered or stored with us in the HENI Vault. HENI estimates all artworks will ship within three months of the application window closing. If you use the Vault, you won't be charged until two months after the application window ends, at which point you can withdraw your order at any time. You can learn more about the Vault here.

Each work is from an edition size of 25 + 6 APs, hand-signed and numbered on the front by Wes Lang. They are available to apply for on HENI Editions from 10 October 2024 until 21 October 2024 at 17:00 BST.
Collectors can store their artworks in the HENI Vault. Our bonded fine art warehouse gives maximum flexibility to collectors by delaying delivery and customs duties until a later date.
Should you choose to delay the delivery of your order and store it in the HENI Vault, VAT will not be applied at checkout. To learn more about using the HENI Vault please read this article.
You can complete your application for The Black Drawings on a computer or mobile device, after which you will receive a confirmation email detailing each of the editions you applied for. After the allocation period, if your application is successful, you will be sent an order confirmation once payment has been successfully taken.

Because The Black Drawings is a limited-edition release, HENI tries to ensure that the prints are sold broadly and fairly (rather than on a ‘first come, first served’ basis). You can apply for multiple artworks from The Black Drawings, however, HENI cannot guarantee that you will be offered the opportunity to buy every print you apply for.
If you selected the Complete Fulfilment option during the application process, HENI will only satisfy your application if we are able to fulfil your entire application. If you selected the Partial Fulfilment option during the application process, HENI may offer you the opportunity to purchase some of the editions you applied for, but not all. Choosing Partial Fulfilment may increase your chances of being successfully allocated. HENI will carefully review each application and aims to start notifying successful applicants in the coming weeks once the application period has closed.
The Black Drawings are priced in US Dollars and can be purchased using a credit or debit card. Please ensure when submitting your payment details that you enter the correct billing post/zip code information for the payment card you are using.
When applying for The Black Drawings you will be asked to provide details of a credit or debit card. HENI will carefully review each application and aims to start notifying successful applicants in the coming weeks. Only after you have been notified of your successful application will HENI arrange to take payment. HENI will automatically attempt to take payment using the payment method supplied at the time of the application. If this payment method fails, you will be notified by email with a custom payment link that you can use to complete payment. You have 48 hours from the time of the email to complete your payment, otherwise your allocation will be revoked.
The HENI Vault, a storage service which gives flexibility to collectors who don't have immediate space to store their artworks. Our fine art warehouse features a secure, climate-controlled environment in the UK. With its customs-bonded status, the HENI Vault not only ensures the safekeeping of your artworks but also allows the deferral of delivery and customs duties until you decide to withdraw your artworks.
Here's how it works:
- After the close of the drop, your artworks will enter production, during which there will be no storage charges.
- Three months post-drop, a monthly subscription fee of $25 per artwork kicks in for using the HENI Vault.
- You have the freedom to withdraw your artworks at any time. A handling and administration charge of $25 per artwork applies upon withdrawal.
You can choose to store your artworks in the HENI Vault during the checkout. You will be asked to complete some security questions which we may ask for in the future. Confirmation of your Vault subscription will be sent by email, along with details on how to withdraw your artwork in the future.
Please note that although VAT is not charged at the time of purchase, when withdrawing an artwork from the Vault, you will be charged VAT on the initial purchase price if you are then shipping that artwork to the UK. You will be contacted by your local customs or shipping regarding paying VAT and any applicable duties if you are shipping your artwork from the Vault to outside the UK.
The Black Drawings do not come with a Certificate of Authenticity. The edition numbers for each of the works are randomly allocated and cannot be chosen.
The Black Drawings editions are on display at the HENI Gallery for the duration of the drop. Admission to the gallery is free, with no appointment required.
